But there is so much more to Koh Phangan than you will find on the beach at the Full Moon party. There are secluded beaches that are so quiet, so lush, you will think you've travelled back to when the world was new and humans had yet to appear. Or perhaps you would like to hike through Koh Phangan's many foot trails. Observe the colourful birds as they fly silently overhead. Listen to the animals calling to each other in the forest. Creep up on a thundering waterfall and feel the mist of it on your face. Or perhaps you like to observe people practicing their native way of life. Though parts of Koh Phangan are definitely ready to pamper your every whim, in many parts of Koh Phangan people live and work much as they have been for a hundred years. Come see a piece of living history. Are you an ecco tourist? Koh Phangan is the perfect stopping off point on any diver's agenda. Once you begin exploring the land of moonlight and mystery, you will quickly realize that that there is more to see than you could possibly fit into one trip. Koh Phangan BeachesKoh Phangan's beaches are its glory. The most developed beaches lie around Thong Sala, where most of the boats from Samui, Surat Thani, and Koh Tao dock. Hat Rin also boasts developed beaches, and this is where you want to go if you want the Full Moon parties. Nature AttractionsKoh Phangan is a paradise for nature lovers; from the endless islands of the Angthong Marine National Park to trekking paths to beautiful lakes and waterfalls, Koh Phangan has it all. Koh Phangan TemplesWhen you go to visit the temples, do remember that they are places of worship for the Thais. Act respectfully. Don't take pictures of family members posed next to Buddha. Dress respectfully-this means no shorts or beach wear, or tank tops or other skimpy clothing for women. This includes sleeveless tops. Despite what you see on the beaches, Thais have a more conservative idea of proper attire in temples. Err on the side of conservatism. Take your hat and your shoes off at the door. Don't be surprised if you see Thais or Asian tourists setting off firecrackers. They are doing it to bring good luck.
