From dives directly off the beach to longer boat dives, Koh Phangan has something for every temperament and experience level. The water is warm (28 Celsius), and the the reefs and animal life give you so many things to see. If you're new to diving, you can learn in the calm waters of Koh Phangan. Look for a PADI certified dive shop and PADI certified dive instructor. Ask where the nearest decompression chamber is. If they don't know, don't use that shop.

Before your trip to Koh Phangan, check to see if the hotel you are considering has a dive package. Often you can save a good deal of money buying a package through your hotel. Koh Phangan has many dive shops, so if you are the type of person who likes to wait until the last minute before booking a dive, then the island can accommodate your easy-going ways. Again, check with your hotel for a dive shop near your lodgings.

All of the dive sites directly around Koh Phangan are situated on the south west, west and north coasts of the island, with the highest concentration of sites being in the west.

Phangan dive sites: Angthong National Marine Park

The best diving around Koh Phangan can be found in Angthong National Marine Park.

Phangan dive sites: Haad Mae Had

This long coral reef dive will provide you with a relaxing excursion. It had an excellent range of hard corals & reef fish. It is possible to dive to a maximum depth of 14m.

Phangan dive sites: Koh Tae Nok

This small island just north of Koh Pha-ngan has both hard and soft corals and a wide range of marine life. This is a good place to go if you have trouble figuring out the difference between hard and soft coral, as the two specimens are there for your perusal.

Phangan dive sites: Sail Rock

Sail Rck is in some ways the most famous dive site in the Gulf of Thailand. In a place noted for its stunning dive sites, that says a lot! It is located between Koh Pha-ngan and Koh Tao and is appropriate for all levels of divers. This spectacular rock rises out of the water in a magestic spire, creating one of the best wall dives around.

It has a maximum depth of 40 metres. You can go there expecting to see a wide range of sea life and spectacular scenery. For many, the highlight of the dive is the Chimney swim-through.
