Phangan Half Moon Party in Ao Ban Tai

Koh Phangan is famous around the world for being home to the Full Moon Party; a monthly beach party which attracts party-goers from all across the world. However, the island also hosts a Half Moon Party twice a month. This is a good option if you are going to miss the main event. The party is held twice a month; a week before and a week after the Full Moon Party and sees some of southern Thailand's top DJ's arriving to play to the crowds.

Location, location, location

One of the most appealing factors of the party is its unique setting. It is held in Ban Tai jungle, very close to one of Koh Phangan's smaller beaches, Ao Ban Tai. The striking natural scenery boasts indoor and outdoor venues as well as fire dancers, food stalls and of course plenty of bars selling a wide range of alcoholic beverages. There are not many places in the world where you can party in the jungle with thousands of other revellers.

Tickets and accommodation for the Phangan Half Moon Party

Ticket price is a very reasonable 300 baht and tickets can be bought on Koh Phangan or Koh Samui. If you are travelling from Samui for the night, speed boats are available throughout the night to take you to and from the party. If you are considering spending time on Koh Phangan after the party, you need to ensure that you book your accommodation well in advance as hotel and guesthouse rooms book up very quickly throughout the island, especially hotels in Ban Tai Beach.

While most people arrive on the island to enjoy themselves, there are opportunist thieves roaming around so be sure to always hold on to your belongings and lock any valuables in the safe at your hotel or guesthouse. Following simple rules of common sense will ensure that you don't become a victim of a petty thief.

Have fun

The Half Moon Party may not be as highly regarded as the Full Moon Party, but it is becoming more and more popular and is ideal if you can't make the latter. The main aim is to ensure that people have fun and dance until the sun comes up, although if dancing till dawn isn't your thing, there are plenty of places to rest and people watch. You will however undoubtedly get caught up in the lively atmosphere from the start which will carry you through.
