The ferry to Koh Phangan is a popular option for travellers that enjoy an adventure or a deal. The ferry offers affordable travel, and disembarks from Surat Thani, Koh Samui or Chumphon.

To get to Koh Phangan by ferry take a bus or train from Bangkok to one of the ferry ports – mostly likely Surat Thani. This train trip is overnight travel, so savvy adventurers should plan ahead for their own comfort. From Surat Thani you can get to Koh Phangan by ferry in anywhere from 2.5 to 4 hours depending on the service you choose.

Many people choose to get to Koh Phangan by ferry boat, and enjoy the spectacular ocean views of the Gulf of Thailand as they approach Koh Phangan.

Yea! We used the night ferry too! It's a great experience, and we met loads of cool people!

We were lucky though, we got to the island about a week before the Full Moon Party so we could get tickets for the next boat leaving Surat Thani no problem.

When you get to a few days before the party EVERY ferry is absolutely packed to capacity (and sometimes maybe a little bit more!). You don't want to be left behind in Surat Thani lol.

We opted for the night ferry to Koh Phangan mainly because we had missed the earlier ferry when our mini bus arrived in Surat Thani.

Since there's not a great deal to do in Surat Thani it was a no brainer!

The night ferry is much slower than the day boat but is still a very popular option with both locals and backpackers. It's cooler during the night obviously and if you want to save some extra cash you get transportation and bed (or at least a mat to sleep on) all in one.
